User accounting - Balances and Quotas

Netware 3.x servers
User account balances are maintained using the Novell accounting feature. If this
feature is to be used, then it must be enabled by using the NetWare SYSCON utility.
Note: If accounting for tracking connect time or disk usage is enabled, and the
account balances are not in currency units, then the user account balances will not
appear to be consistent if XCounter is used. Please check to make sure none of
these features are enabled on the file server before implementing XCounter. Netware
creates the file \SYS\SYSTEM\NET$ACCT.DAT. This file contains binary records
of all accounting transactions on the file server, as well as logins, etc. This file should
be monitored and deleted periodically.
Netware 4.x servers
It is not necessary to install accounting, as NDS already has built-in account balance
properties/attributes for users. If NetWare accounting for tracking connect time, or
disk usage, and XCounter are enabled, and the account balances are not in currency
units, the user account balances will not appear to be consistent. Please ensure none
of these features are enabled on the file server before implementing XCounter in this
fashion.
All servers
The cost for each print job is defined in the queue's configuration. If money is being
collected for printing, and the cost of each print job from a user's account balance is
being deducted, then positive prices should be used. Negative prices should be used
to keep a running total of print activity in user account balances.
XManager can be used to modify user/group account balances and low balance
limits. XManager can optionally keep records in XCOUNTER.LOG.
No record will be kept of any accounting transactions in
SYSCON/NETADMIN/NWADMIN.
