For example, you might plan a three-stage process. You upgrade a few components in each
stage such that the stopping point is a fully supported combination of versions. The desired
result is to upgrade the fewest number of components possible, but to push each of those as far
as possible toward the final version. This method of upgrading reduces the number of variables
at each stage, and at the same time reduces the number of times a given component needs to be
upgraded. After each stage, run regression tests to verify that the solution is fully operational
again. At that time, you may opt to run the solution in production at that stage for a period of
time.
When your upgrade plan is in place and you are ready to upgrade, be sure to study the CVP

your deployment.
