Remote Upgrade Procedure
1. Have the CD pre-inserted into the CDROM drive
2. Set up a modem and dial in the Cisco MeetingPlace Audio Server. Please refer to CE Guide on how
to set up modem connection.
3. Log in to MeetingPlace as technician (i.e., tech$ prompt) through a telnet session (telnet to
198.207.208.241)
4. Enter
the
down command to down the Cisco MeetingPlace Audio Server software.
5. Note the current time.
6. We strongly recommend that you capture the upgrade session to a log file. Most telnet programs have
logging features that you can turn on. Save the session capture to your desktop as “upgrade.txt”. In
the event that something unexpected occurs with the update, this log will be required by Cisco TAC.

7. Enter
the
update command to begin copying upgrade files from the CD to the system hard drive.
8. When it displays a menu of upgrade sources, enter “1” (CD) as your choice.
9. The system will remind you to wait for the drive to be quiet. Press “enter” when you are ready to
install.
10. The system will mount the CDROM drive and check for update sets on the CD.
11. If there are multiple update sets, it will display the list of the sets and you need to select the desired
one. If there is only one set, the system will inform you so.
12. When it asks you to confirm the update set, enter “y”
13. The CD is being read at this time. This will take approximately 3 minutes
14. When it prompts you to continue or abort (the upgrade), press enter.
15. If the system gives you the following message, restart the server using restart disable. After the
system comes back up, dial in the system, log in as technician and resume step 5:
A disk backup appears to be active...
You may restart the system to stop it.

16. At this time, Upgrade Phase 1 is started.
17. After phase 1 is completed, the server will restart and continue to phase 2 of the upgrade. At this
point, modem connection will be terminated.
18. Please allow approximately 5 minutes for the server to come up before a modem connection can be
re-established.
19. Once the modem is connected to the server, status of the upgrade can be viewed by running update
status in the telnet session. A sample of “update status” command is provided in section 7.2.
20. A real time status can also be displayed by running update trace in the telnet window. Please refer to
section 7.3 for a sample of real time upgrade status.
21. After phase 2 is finished, the server will restart automatically.
22. Please wait about 5 minutes for the server to come up. Log in the server through a telnet session
(could be via network or modem connection).
23. Enter the restart enable command to restart the MeetingPlace system if it does not come up by
itself.
24. Note the time when the upgrade completes and the MeetingPlace system restarts and is back online.
If you had captured the upgrade process to a log file, close the log file and record its location for future
retrieval.
