Tips:

If a headset user’s volume level is consistently low and
sometimes accompanied by elevated background noise, it
may indicate that their headset amplifier module requires
new batteries. Replace the amplifier’s batteries with fresh
ones of the same type to resolve this issue.

If a headset user’s volume level is consistently loud and
distorted, it may mean that their headset microphone boom
is too close to their mouth. Move the microphone boom
slightly away from the mouth to lower the volume to
comfortable levels. This should also reduce or eliminate
distortion.
Conditions that Affect Sound Quality
The sound quality of MeetingPlace meetings depends on the type of
telephone you are using, the type of telephone network you are calling on,
and the amount and type of ambient noise in the environment from which
you are calling.
The following tables present an overview of the sound quality you can
expect in different calling situations.
Type of Telephone
The telephone from which the user speaks to the conference influences
sound quality significantly. Table 0-1 summarizes how various types of
telephones affect sound quality.
Table 0-1  Sound Quality for Different Telephone Types
Telephone Type
Quality Expectations and Issues
Handset or Headset
Excellent. A single user is directly coupled into the conference to
produce minimal background noise and strong input signals.
Inexpensive
Speakerphone
Average. This type of phone works fine when used by a single
user in a private office or small conference room. However,
voices are occasionally “clipped” when multiple parties speak.
High-Quality
Speakerphone
Good. These telephones can handle larger groups in one location.
Most units have extension microphones which obtain better
coverage for all speakers.
Audio Echo Canceler
Device
Excellent. This type produces the finest sound quality results for
a room—but often with the greatest cost.
Cellular and
Car Phones
Average. The speech is highly compressed and occasionally
sounds distorted, compared with other devices. Intermittent
blackouts may occur as the user switches between cells.
Background noise is frequently encountered.
