Users who exceed the limit when entering passwords from the computer
(MeetingTime) are exited from the application. The user can then double-
click on the MeetingTime icon and try again. (Security is less stringent from
the computer than from the phone because outdialing is not an issue.)
Up-To-Date Database
You also ensure user profile security by maintaining an up-to-date user
database. For example, delete or deactivate user profiles of employees who
leave the company. See Chapter 6 for instructions on removing profiles from
the system.
MeetingPlace SNMP Agent
The MeetingPlace Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent
comes preconfigured with communities labeled “public” and “private.” To
prevent unauthorized queries, Latitude recommends changing these
community names to names chosen by the customer. For details on changing
community names, see the Monitoring MeetingPlace Using SNMP section in
Chapter 4.
The MeetingPlace SNMP agent is based on SNMPv1 code, which has
security vulnerabilities that are known to hackers. Latitude recommends
blocking the SNMP port using a firewall. If the MeetingPlace server will be
located so that a firewall cannot protect the SNMP port, Latitude
recommends shutting down the SNMP agent. If you want to shut down the
SNMP agent, please contact Latitude Customer Support.
Securing Meetings
All meetings are protected by meeting ID numbers. On a meeting-by-meeting
basis, you can determine whether a scheduled meeting requires a password in
addition to a meeting ID.
If you do not want end users to see listings for meetings they have not been
invited to, the Display Meeting to Everyone? parameter must be set to No
when scheduling a meeting. If this parameter is set to Yes, any profile user will
be able to view information about this meeting from the Browse Meetings link
in MeetingPlace Web as well as from the MeetingTime interface.
Using Meeting Passwords
Meeting passwords provide an additional level of security to the meeting.
Using the Usage Parameters topic in the Configure tab, you can define the
minimum length for a meeting password (Min meeting pwd length).
Restricting Meeting Attendance
The Who Can Attend parameter enables meeting schedulers to restrict
meeting attendance to those users with MeetingPlace profiles or to profile
users who are explicitly invited to meetings. Restricting meeting attendance
prevents guest users from joining the meeting.
