Quarantines
Quarantines are special queues or repositories used to hold and process messages.
Cisco IronPort AsyncOS allows you to place incoming or outgoing messages into
one of the appliance’s quarantines: ‘system’ and ‘IronPort Spam.’

As messages are processed by the Cisco IronPort appliance, various actions are
applied. Filters are applied to messages, messages are scanned for spam or
viruses, and the Outbreak Filters feature scans messages for targeted attacks. Any
of these actions can cause a message to be quarantined, depending on your
