Shut Down the Server 
Shutting Down the Server 
To shut down the server, complete the following steps. 
Important:  Always use this method to shut down the server before powering it 
down; otherwise, the disks can be corrupted. 
1. 
At the Username: prompt, log in as root
2. 
At the password prompt, type the password that you specified during 
configuration. 
3. 
At the # prompt, type shutdown -I 6 -g0 -y.  
Note:  As an alternate method to shutting down the server, you can press the 
Power button behind the front cover once, briefly. This method will also 
initiate a controlled shutdown. 
Result:  When the machine is safely shut down, it can be physically powered 
off.
