4  Make a backup copy of the current GQAM configuration file. 
5  If you are upgrading more than one GQAM, establish an order for upgrading the 

modulators. 

6  Install the GQAM software onto the DNCS from either our FTP site or a CD.

7  Follow these steps to locate and write down the IP addresses of the GQAM GigE 

ports provisioned on your system that you are planning to upgrade. 
a  On the front panel of each GQAM you are planning to upgrade, press the 

Options button ten times. The GigE IP address appears. 

b  Write down the GigE IP address for each GQAM you are planning to 

upgrade. 

Important: Be sure to match each GigE IP address with the correct GQAM. 

c  Verify that the GigE IP addresses defined in the Set Up GQAM GUI on the 

DNCS match the IP addresses that display on the front panel LCD screen of 

each corresponding GQAM you are planning to upgrade. 

8  Do the GigE IP addresses match? 

 

If yes, go to step 6. 

 

If no, change the GigE port IP addresses in the Set Up GQAM GUI to match 

the IP addresses shown on the front panel LCD screen for each 

corresponding GQAM you are planning to upgrade. Then, go to step 6. 

Note: If your GQAM will carry VOD sessions, documenting current sessions is 

not necessary. VOD sessions are set up as needed when a DHCT requests a 

session. 

 

Upgrade Tasks 
Important: Performing the upgrade tasks will result in a temporary loss of service as 

GQAMs are reset. 
1  Download the new software to the GQAMs. 
2  If the GQAMs you are upgrading currently carry broadcast sessions, determine 

the sessions that are running on those modulators you plan to upgrade. This will 

allow you to verify that these sessions are rebuilt after the new software is 

downloaded to the modulators.
