This exercise gives you an overview of the most commonly used options. 
Note the location of the settings panel button in the AutoOCR toolbar. For 
more information on the settings panel see “Touring the Settings Panel” 
on page 2-14.

Getting an image, either by scanning a document or loading an image file, 
is the first step in the OCR sequence. The option you select in the Image 
button’s pop-up menu takes place when you click either the AUTO or 
Image button.

Open the pop-up menu under the Image button and choose Scan 
Image

Use this setting when scanning pages with your scanner.

Open the pop-up menu in the Image button and select Load 
Image

Use this setting when opening image files for recognition.

Reset the pop-up menu to Scan Image. 

An OmniPage Pro zone specifies what area(s) will be recognized in a 
scanned or loaded image and whether the zone contents will be 
recognized as alphanumeric or numeric characters, or as a graphic.

The Zone button lets you choose whether to have OmniPage Pro draw 
zones automatically or whether to draw the zones manually. The Zone 
button is available after a page has been scanned or an image loaded.

Open the pop-up menu in the Zone button and select Manual 
Zones

If you select Manual Zones and click the AUTO button, 
OmniPage Pro stops after acquiring the image. At this point you
