Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:

Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the

computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.

Disconnect the power cord.

Remove the battery (see 

Remove the following components:

. Hard drive (see 

. Optical drive (see 

)

. Keyboard (see 

. Switch cover (see 

. Display assembly (see 

)

Remove the top cover:

Turn the computer upside down, with the front toward you.

Remove the five Phillips PM2.0×7.0 screws (1) and the three Phillips PM2.0×4.0 screws (2) that

secure the top cover to the computer.

Turn the computer right-side up, with the front toward you.

Disconnect the display lid switch board cable (1) from the system board.
