Starting Up/Shutting Down

Operation
z You may encounter the following situations when the computer is turned on at 
very low temperatures.  These functions are designed to prevent hard disk drive 
malfunctions that may occur at low temperatures.
„ If the screen on the left is displayed immediately after 
you turn on the power...
A password has been set to ensure the computer’s security.
Enter your password
 and press 
Enter. ( ⇒ Reference Manual “Security Mea-
sures”)
z When the correct password is input, the computer will start.
z When three incorrect password attempts or nothing is input for one minute, the 
computer will power off.

Supervisor Password or User Password set in the Setup Utility (not the Windows password).

Action
The computer turns on, and the mes-
sage “Warming up the system (up to 
30 minutes)” is displayed.
The computer is warming up before start up. 
Wait for the computer to start up (takes up to 
30 minutes).
However, the computer may fail to warm up 
and the message “Cannot warm up the sys-
tem” will be displayed, and the computer will 
not start. If this happens, turn off the com-
puter, leave it in an environment with a tem-
perature of 5
°C {41°F} or more for about an 
hour, and then try turning the power on once 
more.
z The computer does not turn on.
z The computer does not resume 
operation from standby or hiber-
nation mode.
(The power indicator blinks quickly in 
green.)
