You can select mute or attenuation when [MUTE] is pressed.

Press [VOLUME] (SEL: select).
External Mute
Allows you to mute the current source while Panasonic naviga-
tion system provides voice guidance or car telephone conversa-
tion is in progress. 
Default: 0
Setting range: 0 to 2 + OFF
Press [VOLUME] (SEL: select).
TA Volume Set
Traffic announcements are broadcast at the TA volume level.
Default: 18
Setting range: 1 to 40
Press [VOLUME] (SEL: select).
