Playing while you are recording (continued)
Checking the recording during recording 
(TIME SLIP)
[HDD] [RAM]
While recording is taking place, you can play desired scenes in the 
programme that is being recorded currently or were recorded 
previously.
Preparation
Switch [DVD, TV] 
(15) to “DVD”.
While recording or timer recording
Press [TIME SLIP] 
(25).
Play starts 30 seconds previous. For 5 seconds the play images 
are shown together with the recording.
The play images are shown in full 
once 5 seconds have passed.

ªTo change the part being played
Within 5 seconds
Press [
34(10) to enter the time.
≥Press to increase in one-minute units. Press and hold to increase 
in 10-minute units (can be set: HDD 
)maximum 999 minutes, 
DVD-RAM/-R 
)maximum 360 minutes).
The play images appear in full after 5 seconds.
Example: Go back 5 minutes
ªTo show both the recording and play images
Press and hold [TIME SLIP] 
(25) for about 3 seconds.
≥The picture-in-picture(2) screen becomes a full screen(1) if you 
perform play function other than normal play.
ªTo stop play and recording
1) Press [
∫] (7). Play stops.
2) (Wait 2 or more seconds)
Press [
∫] (7). Recording stops.
≥You cannot stop recording with [∫] (7) during timer 
recording. To stop timer recording, press [
Á, TIMER] (12).
For your reference
≥If you fast-forward, rewind, or skip during Time Slip, only the play 
images are shown in full.
≥The sound for the images being played is heard during Time Slip.
≥The operation is shown on the unit’s display (page 5).

Using the FUNCTIONS window
About the FUNCTIONS window
Most of the features and functions of this unit can also be 
controlled with icons. The examples show the FUNCTIONS 
window when a DVD drive is selected and a DVD-RAM is being 
used. Actual menus depend on the type of disc being used.
Disc display
(1) Disc title
≥The disc’s title is displayed if one is recorded. You can enter 
titles with “Enter Title” in DISC INFORMATION (page 42).
(2) Disc protection
≥“On” is displayed if you have used “Disc Protection” in DISC 
INFORMATION to protect the disc (page 42).
(3) Cartridge Protection
≥“On” is displayed if the cartridge’s write protect tab is 
switched to “PROTECT” (page 89).
Using the FUNCTIONS window
