When a PGPdisk volume is mounted, you can use it as you would any other
disk. You can install applications within the volume, move or save your files
to the volume. When the volume is unmounted, it is unaccessible to anyone
who does not know your secret passphrase, which is a longer version of a
password. Even a mounted volume is protected as it it stored in encrypted
format, unless a file or application is in use. If your computer crashes while a

Creating a new PGPdisk volume
1. Start PGPdisk. Click start in the Windows taskbar, point to programs, then
PGP. Next, select PGPdisk.
2. Click New. The PGPdisk Wizard displays on your screen. Read the
introductory information.
3. Click Next; specify the name and location of the new volume; then click
Save.
4. Enter the amount of space you want to reserve for the new volume in the
PGPdisk Size field. Use whole numbers, no decimal points. You can use the
arrows to increase or decrease the number displayed on the field.

5. Click the appropriate radio button to select kilobytes, megabytes, or
gigabytes. Depending on the amount of space available, you can create a
volume of any size between 100 kilobytes and 2 gigabytes.

6. Select the letter of the drive where you want to mount your PGPdisk
volume. Click Next.
7. Enter the string of words or characters that will serve as you passphrase to
access the new volume (also called the volume’s master passphrase). To
confirm your entry, press Tab to advance to the next text box, then reenter
the same passphrase to confirm. The minimum size allowed for a
passphrase is 8 characters.

As an added level of security, the characters you enter for the passphrase
are not visible on the screen. However, if you want to see the characters as
you type them, you can click the Hide Typing check box.

NOTE: Passphrase should contain more than one word, along with
spaces, numbers, and other recognizable characters. Choose something
you are very familiar with. It is important that you do not forget your
passphrase or you will lose your data.
