KX-P8420/KX-PS8100 Apple Setup
Overview
The features of the KX-P8420 and KX-PS8100 make them
excellent printers for the Mac world.  The following procedures
contain instructions on setting up the KX-P8420 and KX-PS8100 on
one Apple or a network of Apple computers.
Considerations
1) The KX-P8420 and KX-PS8100 will print from Apple computers in
the Macintosh II, Quadra, Centris, Performa and Power Macintosh
families.  Apple system software version 7.5.x or above is
required.
2) Apple computers do not have parallel ports as PC’s have.  Apple
printers connected directly to Apple computers print using serial
connections.
3) The KX-P8420 and KX-PS8100 do not support serial printing.
4) Apple computers have built in Ethernet.  Older Macintoshes may
need a transceiver to convert the AAUI connector ( a 14 pin D
shaped connector) located on the back of the Mac to RJ-45 (Looks
like a telephone connector).
5) All models include an Ethernet card that must be used to print from
a Mac whether it is a networked Mac or a single Mac.
6) The KX-P8420 and KX-PS8100 support Ethertalk
not
 LocalTalk.
(Both are Apple protocols) LocalTalk uses a serial connection.
7) Mac’s can be and are often connected to the same network with
IBM compatible PC’s, on NT and Novell networks.  The KX-P8420
and KX-PS8100 will support printing from both Mac’s and PC’s
simultaneously.
