Why should I connect the IR Blaster?
The IR Blaster is a device that allows this unit to communicate with the cable TV box. It acts like a remote control for the cable TV box. 
If you connect a cable TV box to this unit, you also need to attach the IR Blaster so this unit can control the channels on the cable TV box.

Setting up the TV Guide On Screen™ system
Follow the on screen instructions using your 
DVD recorder’s remote control.
“BYE” appears briefl y and then “12:00A” fl ashes on the unit's display. The unit is now in standby mode and 
ready to download the channel lineup and the program listings.
