9. Troubleshooting
The Symphony HomeRF 2.0 Suite of products is designed to be very easy to 
install and operate.  If you do experience difficulties, however, use the infor-
mation in this chapter and on Proxim’s Symphony Web site to help diagnose 
and solve your problems.  If you cannot resolve a problem, contact Proxim, as 
described in Appendix A: How to Reach Technical Support.
Common Installation Problems
Chapter 3 describes how to install the Symphony HomeRF adapter in a com-
puter running Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows 2000 Professional by 
running the Symphony Installation program before inserting the adapter.  This 
section provides some suggestions to resolve many of the common problems 
encountered during the installation of a Symphony HomeRF adapter.
If You Inserted the Adapter Before Running the Setup Program
Follow these steps to install the Symphony HomeRF adapter if you inserted 
the adapter before running the Symphony Installation program:
1.
Insert the Symphony HomeRF adapter into a PCMCIA slot or USB port.
2.
When the Symphony HomeRF adapter is inserted for the first time, Win-
dows will automatically detect the adapter an launch the Add New Hard-
ware Wizard.
3.
Insert the Symphony Installation CD into the computer’s CD-ROM drive.
4.
Windows 98 and Windows 2000 Professional users, click <Next> to con-
tinue.
5.
When prompted, select Automatic search for a better driver (Windows 
ME), Search for the best driver for your device (Windows 98), or 
Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and click 
<Next>.
6.
Windows 98 and Windows 2000 Professional users, check the CD-ROM 
drive
 box and click <Next> to continue.
