 TABS-6
 Trailer ABS Standard (or Premium):

All Wheel Speed Sensor Loss of Signal DTC
© 2012 Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, a member of the Knorr-Bremse Group.  3/12.  All Rights Reserved.
The purpose of this Bulletin is to alert technicians investigating an illuminated ABS lamp on trailers equipped
with Bendix
®
 TABS-6
Trailer ABS Standard (or Premium) modules where the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
indicates a Speed Sensor: Loss of Signal error for all sensed wheels.
This Bulletin covers trailers (triples, doubles, B-Trains, or full trailers) with MULTIPLE Bendix TABS-6 Standard
(or Premium) modules where the Bendix TABS-6 module receives data over the PLC (Power Line Carrier).  The
DTCs are incorrectly set when a Bendix TABS-6 module receives a message via the J2497 communication link
from a second Bendix TABS-6 module which it misinterprets as a message from the tractor indicating that the
vehicle is moving, while its own sensors do not show any wheels as turning.
For technicians who are diagnosing systems using blink codes:
 (a) in the case of a 2S/1M (two sensor, one modulator) configuration, the DTCs stored correspond to BOTH
a blink code of 2-2 AND ALSO a blink code of 3-2.
 (b) For a 4S/2M (four sensor, two modulator) configuration, the blink codes found will be ALL FOUR of the
following: 2-2, 3-2, 4-2, AND 5-2.
Technicians can use either of the following two processes to configure the module to disable the J2497 broadcast
options and prevent any further DTCs due to this issue:
1.  Use Bendix
®
 ACom
®
 Diagnostics Software.
The J2497 Broadcast Options can be disabled using Bendix ACom Diagnostics Software. A free
download is available at www.bendix.com, or you may order a CD (item number BW2329) from the
Literature Center on bendix.com. Bendix ACom Diagnostics communicates via your computer’s
serial, parallel or USB port through an RP-1210A compliant device that connects to the vehicle’s
diagnostic connector.
OR,
2.  Use a special Bendix
®
Trailer Remote Diagnostic Unit (TRDU) — Part number K069555.
Note: Particular care should be taken to ensure that the TRDU remains connected until the LED
sequence indicating a successful configuration is displayed. Refer to the instruction sheet that
comes with the special TRDU for more details. Failure to complete the configuration can result in
an ECU 6 (Configuration) DTC. Should this occur, re-apply the special TRDU.
