To connect the Management Card to an IBM PC/AT or PS/2 compatible computer, you will need a PC/AT
style null-modem cable such as our product code EYN257H. Attach one end of this cable to the Card’s
DB9 male serial port and the other end to the computer’s serial port. Once this connection is made, choose
option 8 to transmit the contents of the Management Card’s security log from the Card to that PC. Using a
suitable terminal-emulation program (such as Microsoft
style null-modem cable such as our product code EYN257H. Attach one end of this cable to the Card’s
DB9 male serial port and the other end to the computer’s serial port. Once this connection is made, choose
option 8 to transmit the contents of the Management Card’s security log from the Card to that PC. Using a
suitable terminal-emulation program (such as Microsoft
®
Windows
®
HyperTerminal™ or ProComm
®
), the
security log can be captured to a file for printing and storing.
When you select option 8 at the System Management Tools Main Menu, you will be asked to configure the
Management Card’s serial port, as shown below: Either accept the default port settings or toggle among the
different available values. (The receiving computer’s serial port must be configured the same way.) Then enter
or accept the date and time of the first log record you want to transfer, and the log transfer will begin (make
sure the terminal emulator is running on the receiving computer at this point). The data will be formatted the
same way it is in the Log Window of the Management Card’s Security Monitor (see Section 10.5.3). Each line of
ASCII text ends with carriage-return and line-feed codes.

If there is any question about whether the transfer was successful, compare the number of records you actually
receive with the number of records that the Card says it transferred. Repeat the transfer if the numbers don’t
