Enter the correct username and password, and you can proceed to configure or 
manage the Router once you see the command line DOS prompt (<3Com> for 
example) displayed in the remote terminal emulation program.
Setup via SSH
SSH is only available through Extended V2.00 software. 
SSH, secure shell, provides high level of security and authentication, protecting 
3Com Series Routers from such attacks as IP address spoofing, plain-text password 
interception, when subscribers log on the routers remotely from an insecure 
network environment. The procedure is similar to that for Telnet mode. 
To set up local configuration environment, connect the Ethernet port of PC to the 
counterpart on the router. You can achieve network-layer interconnection via HUB 
or an Ethernet switch. To set up remote configuration environment, you need set 
up connection between them over WAN. 
Run Telnet program on the PC. Configure terminal type as VT100 and key in the IP 
address of the router (or enter the WAN interface IP address of the router on the 
remote PC), to create connection with the router. 
Configure SSH parameters on the router.
