Specifying the Ratio of Dead Timer-to-Hello Timer
IS-IS maintains adjacencies by the transmission and reception of Hello packets. If
the router fails to receive a Hello packet from a peer before the configured dead
timer expires, the peer is considered invalid.
the router fails to receive a Hello packet from a peer before the configured dead
timer expires, the peer is considered invalid.
By default, the number of Hello messages is 3.
If neither
Level-1
nor
Level-2
is configured in the command, the configuration
takes effect on Hello messages of both Level-1 and Level-2.
Configuring the Priority
of a Router
IS-IS elects a Designated Intermediate System (DIS) router on broadcast networks.
On broadcast networks, a DIS must be selected. The Administrator can modify the
priority of the router in an effort to determine which router will become the DIS.
The higher the priority, the more likely the router will assume the DIS function. In
the event all routers on a broadcast network share the same priority level, the
router with the higher MAC address will be the elected DIS. When setting the
priority of the router, select the correct level (either Level-1 or Level-2) depending
on the interface type connected to the broadcast domain.

The DIS of Level-1 and Level-2 are elected separately. You can set different
priorities for DIS election at different levels.
