Rules for Microsoft Exchange messaging 
environments
Topology
40. All MAS units must be on same LAN segment as the Microsoft 
Exchange server.
Peer Exchange server
41. Each MAS has a single primary peer Exchange server. The 
administrator can configure the MAS to establish communication 
with another Exchange server to act as a peer when the current 
primary peer Exchange server goes offline. 
42. Different MAS units in a voice mail domain can have different 
peer Exchange servers.
Directory server
43. Different MAS units in a voice mail domain can have different 
directory servers that are replicants of each other.
44. Each directory server can be a server of more than one voice mail 
domain.
Capacity
45. An e-mail server can be a peer server for more than one MAS.
46. An e-mail server can be a host to more than one voice mail 
domain.
47. A voice mail domain can have multiple e-mail servers.
48. A voice mail domain can contain a maximum of ten MAS units. 
If a dedicated server is used to host the Tracing Server, or Offline 
Call Answer store, or both, this dedicated server does not count 
toward the maximum MAS units supported.
Rules for Exchange 
2003 messaging 
environments
49. Each MAS can have only one directory server. The directory 
server must be an Active Directory Domain controller configured 
as a global catalog.
50. An Exchange 2003 domain can contain more than one voice mail 
domain.
51. A voice mail domain can contain subscribers in different 
Exchange 2003 domains, provided subscribers are in the same 
forest.
