Hardware
Prerequisites
Most operating systems list both minimum and recommended system requirements. As a general rule, if
your system meets the minimum requirements for the operating system, it will also meet the minimum
system requirements for Data Protector Express. However, for better performance, we recommend that
your system exceeds the operating system's recommended requirements and has at least the following:
300MB of hard disk space for Data Protector Express application
1GB of hard disk space for Data Protector Express catalog and disaster recovery images (minimum) -
see note below
CD drive for Data Protector Express installation (recommended)
CD/DVD writer or a HP tape device for use with the Data Protector Express Bare Metal Disaster
Recovery feature
VGA display with 1024x768 resolution (minimum)
NOTE: The space required for the Data Protector Express catalog can vary from megabytes (MB) to tens or
even hundreds of gigabytes (GB). The size of the catalog is determined by a number of factors including the
number of files backed up, the length of the names of the files backed up, the directory structure of the
protected files and the number of versions kept of protected files. Space is also required for Windows PE
disaster recovery ISO files. Each of these DR images is about 250MB so as more DR images are stored the
space required will increase. The Data Protector Express catalog should be stored on reliable disk and
backed up periodically.
