If only I could carry the manual around in a tiny but still useable form.
And then I found Repligo Reader. It is a nicely designed app that opens
and reads PDF (Portable Document Format) files on (let’s be honest
here) the relatively tiny screen of a BlackBerry device.
After I installed Repligo Reader, I connected my BlackBerry to my per-
sonal computer and I used the Mass Storage feature to move a copy
of the instruction manual for my new little camera (and for my older,
larger camera) onto the 2GB media card in my phone.

These are not small files: one was about 5MB and the other 14MB in
size. That’s why you need to store them on the removable media card
and not in the memory of the phone itself, which is more appropri-
ately devoted to holding apps, contacts, and e-mails.
I could have brought the PDF files to my BlackBerry other ways: send
them as attachments to e-mails or download them to the device from
the Web site of the camera manufacturer; both of those methods
would work but would have been considerably slower.
Once everything was in its proper place, I opened Repligo and I was
ready to read to use these manuals anywhere my BlackBerry and I
traveled.
There is nothing to configure on the Repligo app itself. Just help it find
a file stored on your BlackBerry and tell it to open it for display. Once
it is open, though, you can choose how best to view it.
The Whole Page image delivers just what it promises: an entire page of
the document sized to fit on the BlackBerry screen. It’s a good way to
quickly thumb through a manual but not the best way to read it. You
can, though, go to the menu and zoom in on the whole page view to
examine a section.
