Frequently asked questions
Q: Can I use my drive on two computers at the same time?
A: No. If you connect the drive to two computers at the same time,
you may damage the drive and the computer.
Q: Where are the USB drivers for Windows
®
 XP,
Windows Vista
®
, or Windows
®
 7?
A: They are built into the Windows
®
 XP, Windows Vista
®
, or
Windows
®
7 operating systems. However, you may need to upgrade
your Windows
®
 operating system. See
Q: Can I connect the drive to a USB expansion card?
A: Yes, but you may need to update the software/firmware for the
card. Check with the card’s manufacturer for the latest updates.
Q: Why is the capacity of my drive as shown in Windows
®
 lower
than the drive’s actual stated capacity?
A: One Gigabyte (GB) means 10
9
 = 1,000,000,000 bytes and One
Terabyte (TB) means 10
12
 = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes using powers
of 10. A computer operating system, however, reports storage
capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB=2
30
 =
1,073,741,824 bytes and 1TB = 2
40
 = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, and
therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity
will also be less if the computer includes one or more pre-installed
operating systems, pre-installed software applications, or media
content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
Q: Can I use my Toshiba drive to copy an operating system
from one computer to another?
A: You cannot transfer an installed operating system to another
computer or hard drive simply by copying the operating system’s
files. In order to install an operating system you’ll need to follow
the manufacturer’s installation procedure. You can restore an
operating system from the Toshiba drive to the computer where it
was originally installed, if you previously backed up your operating
system to the external drive. For more information, see
Q: Does Toshiba provide data recovery services?
A: Toshiba does not provide data recovery services.
