Troubleshooting
TCP/IP Connection Problems
If you have a problem in getting the WorkStation programs to communicate with the Telex/Fax/400
system on your AS/400 it is most likely to be a TCP/IP connectivity problem.
Before you call cma-ettworth, American Presence or European Presence technical support, you
should check the following:
Go to an MS-DOS Prompt under Windows 95 or NT4.
At the C: prompt, type the word ‘ping’ followed by the IP Address of your AS/400 in its dotted format.

If you have a working connection then you should see a response similar to the above.  If you do not
get the above results then you should check the following:
1.
Do you have a network connection that is capable of supporting TCP/IP
communication between your PC and the AS/400
Check with your LAN system administrator.
2.
Is TCP/IP installed on the PC?
Go to Control Panel, Network and check that there is a TCP/IP protocol entry for your
network adapter card.  If there is an entry, click on it and click properties.  Check that
an IP address has been specified, or Obtain IP Address Automatically has been
checked.
3.
Is TCP/IP installed on the AS/400?
Check with your AS/400 system administrator.

PC Re-boots at Startup
We believe that there is a problem with the Client Access Login Service Check Program when used
over TCP/IP.  If you have this in your Startup group, we recommend that you remove it.
