CDE-250 Compact Flash Replacement 
Guide 

 

This document provides detailed information on CDE-250 Compact Flash Replacement procedure. 

Problem Description 

When a CDE250 device has an ATP Compact Flash (CF) card with a firmware revision (FwRev)  older than 20140803, 

installing VQE versions 3.8 and above may fail.  Please refer to the CDE-250-Flash-Issue Field Notice for further details.  
This document describes how to replace the compact flash card in the CDE250, along with updating the VQE software 

(which must be done at the same time). 

Prerequisites 

Please ensure you have the following prior to starting this procedure: 

Replacement compact flash card (Sandisk CF or ATP CF with FwRev >= 20140803) 

USB DVD drive 

DVD disk with valid VQE ISO image version 3.8 or higher 

Serial port console connection to CDE250 

Procedure 

Follow this procedure for replacing the compact flash card and installing the VQE software.  All commands should be run 

from the serial console attached to the CDE250 device. 

NOTE: When replacing the compact flash, the VQE image must be clean installed, there is no upgrade option. 

Ensure the VQE CDE-250 has the faulty Compact Flash card by running the commands as referenced in the CDE-

250-Flash-Issue Field Notice. 

Backup all current VQE files under /etc/opt to a separate machine.  These will need to be restored after the install is 

complete.  Make note of the management IP address and interface, as these will be needed later. 

Shutdown the VQE system by typing the command “poweroff” 

Physically unplug the power cables from the back of the CDE250 power supplies. 

Slide open the CDE250 top cover (See Appendix for screenshots) 

Pull out the faulty Compact Flash card (See Appendix for screenshots)
