11. Inserting / replacing batteries
The weather station and external sensor can be powered with  batteries.
However, the operating time and display contrast will decrease due to the
decreased voltage (battery = 1.5 V, rechargeable battery = 1.2 V). Since
batteries are very sensitive to cold, the operational duration of the external
sensor is greatly reduced in winter.
Therefore we recommend you power the weather station as well as the
external sensor with high grade alkaline batteries to guarantee long and safe
functioning.
The weather station can also be powered via the power supply in the delivery scope.
Information about this is available in the next chapter.
a)  General
Please note:
First insert the batteries into the external sensor, then into the weather station.
If you proceed in another sequence the weather station may not recognize
the external sensor.  In this case a manual search for the external sensor can
be carried out later.
If you want to test the weather station and external sensor on initial start up
e.g. in a room, do not place the external sensor directly next to the weather station.
Otherwise radio interference of the too stronger signal can lead to reception problems.
Keep a distance of at least 1 m between the weather station and the external sensor.
This functions test ensures that later reception problems (after installation) are due to
the arrangement of the weather station and external sensor.
The range between the external sensor and the weather station amounts to 100 m.
Please also note chapter 14.
b)  External sensor

• Open the battery compartment (20) underneath the external sensor while unscrewing
the screws with a small Phillips-tip screw driver and insert 4 AA batteries into the
battery compartment to the correct polarity (please note plus/+ and minus/-). Close
the battery compartment and tighten the screws.
