St Laurence’s College is a Catholic college for boys
in the Archdiocese of Brisbane, Australia. Located
on a large campus in heritage listed buildings,
the college has 150 support staff and teachers
educating 1,400 students from Year Five to Year 12.
The college recently embarked on a ‘connected
classroom’ strategy, which involved refurbishing
its classrooms, providing teachers with computers
connected to interactive whiteboards and giving
students access to lessons via laptop computers.
However, these developments needed sound
networking. The college network was already
overloaded and unreliable. The school IT
department already faced significant amounts of
trouble shooting and connecting the new equipment
was set to make the situation worse.
