Vanguard 6435/6455 Description
Introduction
The Vanguard 6435 and 6455 are flexible, RISC processor-based multiservice
routers that provide increased performance and enhanced capability through
high-speed interfaces for bandwidth-intensive LAN/WAN applications. They offer
cost-effective, simultaneous support for voice, fax, video, and mixed protocol data
traffic over IP, Frame Relay, X.25, ISDN, ATM or NX64 T1/E1 services. The
Vanguard 6435 comes in a compact standalone version, where the Vanguard 6455
can be easily mounted in a 19-inch rack. They are SNMP-manageable and come with
a variety of LAN, SNA, and IP networking features.
This section briefly describes the Vanguard 6435 and 6455.
Vanguard 6435
Description
The Vanguard 6435 is a multiservice router for small branch offices that depend on
efficiently consolidating serial protocols (such as SNA/SDLC, BSC) with LAN
traffic over dedicated or switched services. Fax, RemoteVU video, Voice over Frame
Relay and Voice over IP can be combined with data over dedicated or public Frame
Relay links and still maintain excellent voice and video quality.
The Vanguard 6435 supports three Vanguard Daughtercard slots for video, voice, fax
and mixed protocol data over dedicated or switched services. Two of the slots can be
used for Enhanced Vanguard Daughtercards, such as 10/100BaseT (auto-sensing).
Vanguard 6455
Description
The Vanguard 6455 extends the features of the Vanguard 6435 to address the
networking needs of medium-to-large branch offices with higher density
requirements. It is ideally suited for hierarchical networks where customers need to
concentrate remote branch offices using analog or digital leased lines, IP, Frame
Relay, ISDN, X.25, and NX64K services.
The Vanguard 6455 provides the following:
• Three Vanguard Daughtercard slots for video, voice, fax and mixed protocol
data over dedicated or switched services. Two of the slots can be used for
Enhanced Vanguard Daughtercards.
• Two Option Card slots for multi-port interfaces.
• Support for applications that require a number of high-speed interfaces and/or
multiple LAN support: 10BaseT, 100BaseT, or Token Ring.
• Support for BSC 3270-to-SNA Conversion. For detailed information refer to
the BSC 3270-to-SNA Manual, (Part Number T0101-08).
• Support for BSC 2780/3780-to-SNA/LU0 Conversion. For detailed
information refer to the BSC 2780/3780-to-SNA/LU0 Manual,
(Part Number T0101-09).
