provides replication and recovery of valuable Windows and Linux data to another
server. Proactive replication is a key strategy coupled with tape backup and snapshot
technology for up-to-the-second data protection. Having replicated data co-located
enables customers to recover their static and transactional data in seconds to minutes.

All X1000 G2 Network Storage Systems include the Distributed File System Replication
(DFS-R) feature in the pre-installed Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 operating
system. DFS-R is a file-based replication technology that only replicates files when they
are closed. Microsoft iSCSI Software Target does not close the virtual disk files (.vhd
files) while they are in use, and so these files are not replicated during normal usage
when replicating using DFS-R. Therefore, if iSCSI Software Target virtual disk files
need to be replicated, DFS-R should not be used, and HP Storage Mirroring software
should be considered instead. Storage Mirroring software asynchronously replicates
each write into the file system to a secondary system, and therefore it can be used to
effectively replicate iSCSI Software Target virtual disk files.
