The metering mode is set.
(No icon) [EVALUATION]: The entire screen is partitioned into 256 
zones and the light in each zone is measured 
to determine the optimum exposure for the 
subject. (Default)

[CENTER]
: The exposure is determined by measuring 
the light and giving greater weight to the 
central part of the screen (an area larger 
than that used for spot metering).
[q]
 [SPOT AREA] : The exposure is determined by measuring 
the light at the center of the screen.

Press the MENU button K.
The icon for the selected metering mode appears on the LCD monitor.
[LONG EXP.] Using Slow Shutter Speeds to Shoot Dark 
Subjects
«Applicable mode: 
This mode uses a slow shutter speed when you take pictures of subjects 
such as stars at night or weak lights in a dark situation (e.g. candles). The 
slower the shutter speed
, the longer the subject's image is exposed.

This setting is retained when you turn the camera off.

• For long-exposure shots, always place the camera on a tripod to take the shot.
• Remove the lens cap before turning the camera on.
