a) Mounting the Elevator Unit
Push the elevator into the intended fuselage opening
(figure 1a, item 1) and place it centrally on the fuselage.
Install the wings on the fuselage. For information on
this, see chapter 8. n).
Measure the precise position of the elevator to the wing
(see figure 1b at the top).
When everything is measured perfectly, use a pen to
mark the precise position of the rudder unit at the top
and bottom of the elevator.
Then take the elevator off the fuselage again and
carefully remove the iron-on film within the marks with
a soldering gun.
Important:
The accuracy of this work considerably
influences the flight properties.
Use a soldering gun set to the lowest
temperature if possible to remove the iron-
on film.
Removing the film with a cutter knife is not
recommended since the fibres of the wood
tail unit are injured and thus may lead to
strength problems.
Then you can attach the tail unit permanently to the
fuselage with 30-minute epoxy glue.
Align the tail unit with the fuselage as illustrated in
figures 1a and 1b.
The elevators are attached to the elevator units by two
rudder hinges each. The rudder hinge slots are pre-
installed ex works.
Parallel linkage of both rudders is produced with a U-angle. Check the connection that is glued ex-works before the
next work step.
Mark the positions of the rudder hinges before removing the elevators.
Glue the rudder hinges to the elevators with super glue first. Observe that the hinges do not protrude too far into the
elevators.
Then glue the elevators to the respective elevator tail unit with super glue as well so that a gap of approx. 1 mm results.
Close the remaining gap with the fitted piece from the delivery. Gluing with superglue is sufficient here.
