Initial Router Configuration
 
Using the FirstGear Router Configuration Utility
NETGEAR has designed an easy-to-use graphic interface that makes configuring your router 
easier when compared with the built-in Manager interface. The FirstGear ISDN Router 
Configuration Utility can be used to configure a router quickly for Internet access using the 
interview-style Quick Configuration procedure, or it can be used to customize a router 
configuration using the Advanced Configuration procedure.
The FirstGear utility operates on a PC running Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT. If you 
use Macintosh or UNIX, you can configure a router using FirstGear by connecting the router to a 
PC, setting the configuration, and then reconnecting the router into the original network.

Selecting the Quick or Advanced configuration procedure

Installing FirstGear
FirstGear is shipped on a CD-ROM. You must have Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT to 
install and use FirstGear. 
To install FirstGear on a PC:
1.
Insert the Resource CD into the CD-ROM drive of your PC.
2.
Start the Setup.exe program on the CDusing either the Start button or Windows 
Explorer.
3.
Follow the instructions provided by the Setup program.
The Setup program installs FirstGear to the directory of your choice and places a FirstGear 
shortcut icon on the desktop of your PC.
