3 Connect the Computer
The standard model of the printer is equipped with a parallel port and a USB
port. Depending on where you purchased the printer, a LAN port is also
available as an option. Each connection method is described in this section.
Select the method that applies to your system.
The printer interface cable is not provided with the printer and must be
purchased separately. Select the type and length of cable that applies to the
connection method that you choose.
Windows Connection
The printer can be connected via the parallel port for Windows. If you are
using Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows 98, the
printer can also be connected via the USB port.
z If you connect the printer via the parallel or USB port, you must select the port
with the printer operation panel. The printer will not be able to print if the correct
connection method is not selected with the operation panel.
z The parallel port and USB port cannot be used together.

Parallel Port Connection
1
Plug in the matching end of the parallel cable to the parallel port on
the back of the printer, and secure the connection with the wire clips.
z The printer is equipped with floating internal structure, so when you connect the
printer cable if the connector moves slightly this does not indicate anything
abnormal.
