Migrating Operating Systems Using Hard Drive Duplication
2
Migrating to a new Operating System
Whether  provisioning  new  computers  or  upgrading  older  machines,  migrating  to  a  new  OS  like
Windows 7 can be a time-consuming process.  This is especially true in medium to large organizations
that have numerous computers to upgrade.  A typical installation without disk cloning would be:
1.  Format and/or repartition hard drive
2.  Install Windows 7
3.  Install drivers and system files
4.  Install individual applications
5.  Move to next computer and repeat
Multiply by x number of computers and this becomes a very long and tedious process.
Disk cloning greatly simplifies this process by automatically recreating each hard drive from a master
hard drive. The OS only needs to be installed once and since many large enterprises use a standard
hardware configuration, the device drivers will be the same on each machine.  After that, the user just
needs the appropriate applications to be installed, which is also typically the same bundle on each
computer.  The new installation process becomes:
1.  Create master hard drive
2.  Copy x number of clone drives
3.  Install hard drive in computer
Users will be up and running in a much shorter time, and the installation becomes an automated batch
process for the IT administrator.
Advantages of the Kanguru HDD Duplicator
Unlike many disk cloning solutions, the Kanguru HDD Duplicator is a high-speed, stand-alone system
capable of cloning multiple disks simultaneously.  The advantages to using a hardware-based system
like the Kanguru HDD Duplicator are:

9
Significant time-savings

◦ Disk cloning software is generally limited to one drive at a time

◦ Kanguru  HDD  Duplicator  is  available  in  4-Target  and  12-Target  models  for  simultaneous
cloning

◦ Kanguru HDD Duplicator reaches transfer speeds of 6GB/min

9
Easy to Use

◦ One-touch cloning

◦ No complicated software programs

◦ Test modes to ensure disk integrity

9
Frees up other resources

◦ Does not require a PC

◦ Does not use network bandwidth to transfer image files

◦ Fully-automated – Does not require frequent user intervention or monitoring
