Specify whether the number to be dialed should be formatted as a local call, as a long distance 
call or as an international call. 

If you have to dial an additional code to access an outside line, enter that code here. When 
such a number is used, it is typically either 9 or 8.

Call waiting can disrupt modem communications. If you have a call waiting feature on the line 
from which you are dialing, it is recommended that it be disabled during modem 
communications. The modem can handle this automatically by dialing the correct disable code 
(which disables call waiting for the duration of the current call only). To allow the modem to do 
this, enter the correct call waiting disable code here (check with your telephone service provider 
for the correct code).

Select the type of dialing tone for the phone system you are using. Most phone systems use 
tone-dialing. Pulse dialing (also known as rotary dialing), is still in use on older phone systems.
