Follow the steps below if you have a set of Cisco VCSs running software prior to X3 that are
configured as Alternates.

In order to convert the group of Alternates into a Cisco VCS Cluster, you must first disband the
Alternates and then create them into a new cluster with the Primary Alternate as the Master in the new
cluster.

To do this, on each Cisco VCS:

6. If FindMe accounts existed on the X1 / X2 Cisco VCS and these accounts are wanted in the new
cluster, log in as root and at the command prompt, type:
upgradefindmeaccounts

7. Follow the procedure ”Create a new cluster of Cisco VCS X5 peers”, configuring what was the
Primary Cisco VCS as the Master Cisco VCS in the new cluster.
Upgrading Alternates to a Cisco VCS X5 cluster is now complete.
