Upgrade a non-clustered X3/X4 Cisco VCS to a non-clustered X5 Cisco VCS
Upgrade a non-clustered X3/X4 Cisco VCS to a
non-clustered X5 Cisco VCS
Follow the steps below if you have a single non-clustered Cisco VCS to upgrade.
If provisioning is to be used with a non-clustered X5.x Cisco VCS, then use of Cisco TMS is essential.
If provisioning is not to be used, then use of Cisco TMS is optional but recommended.
If FindMe is to be used on the Cisco VCS, use of Cisco TMS and replicating the FindMe data with
Cisco TMS is strongly recommended. If Cisco VCS does not replicate FindMe data with Cisco TMS
from the start, FindMe data on the Cisco VCS will be lost (overwritten by Cisco TMS’s blank database)
when replication is enabled between Cisco TMS and Cisco VCS – replication is needed if a non-
clustered Cisco VCS is ever to be made into a cluster and the FindMe data is to be kept.

If the Cisco VCS is managed by a Cisco TMS and that Cisco TMS manages other Cisco VCSs
which are clustered or manages Cisco VCSs that have provisioning enabled, use the process
documented in “Upgrade a Cisco VCS X3 / X4 cluster to an X5 cluster”.

If the Cisco VCS is to be used with Cisco TMS follow the upgrade procedure documented in
Upgrade a Cisco VCS X3 / X4 cluster to an X5 cluster”. Follow the sections of the upgrade
procedure called “Upgrade Cisco TMS to 12.6” and Upgrade non-clustered Cisco VCSs to X5”.

If the Cisco VCS is not to use Cisco TMS follow the upgrade procedure documented in “Upgrade
a Cisco VCS X3 / X4 cluster to an X5 cluster”. Follo
w the section of the upgrade procedure called
Upgrade non-clustered Cisco VCSs to X5”.
