When competition is tough
What can a company do in a highly competitive market
with more compute power? It can innovate and sharpen
its competitive edge.
Consider Synnex Thailand.  It’s a subsidiary of Synnex
Technology International Corporation, based in Taiwan,
a distributor of IT products to wholesale markets in Asia.
Synnex Thailand represents over 40 brands and is the
largest IT distributor in that country.
“The Thai electronics market is fiercely competitive,” explains
Kingkaew Jutasompakorn, executive vice president of MIS
and the Logistics Center Department at Synnex Thailand.
“We use IT innovation to keep our inventory to a minimum
and deliver goods just in time to our customers, priced and
timed exactly right. Without stellar IT services we cannot
do business.”
To further reduce costs and sharpen its competitive edge,
the company decided to bring in-house its 18-branch
distributed phone system onto a Voice over IP (VoIP)
system for internal communications, and also use VoIP
to reduce operational costs of its customer call center.
If successful, the new phone system would eliminate 95
percent of Synnex’s telephone costs while providing
better customer service.
The IT team also planned another innovation.  To make
production run more efficiently on the factory floor, Synnex
wanted to install an inventory management system that
would pick and fill orders robotically.  This would speed
up transactions and enable the company to ship more and
larger orders.
