Synnex Thailand’s in-house IT staff started to look for a
reliable infrastructure that could support both new
applications. Usability and manageability were key
requirements, as was saving data center space. With
just four people to administer more than 20 servers,
Synnex did not want to increase complexity or
administrative chores for its staff.
Ultimate density and manageability
The team evaluated several competitive solutions, and
then chose to rely on one of its most powerful and
productive relationships, the one it had forged with HP.
“At that point about 50 percent of our servers were HP
and we were very pleased with them,” says Jutasompakorn.
The winning proposal called for HP BladeSystem
featuring ProLiant BL460c and BL465c server blades
with Intel and AMD processors along with an HP
StorageWorks SB40c storage blade and HP
StorageWorks EVA4000 storage system.
The ProLiant server blades run Microsoft Windows 2003
and Solaris Operating System. “We chose the HP
BladeSystem because it enables us to reduce the server
footprint by 35 percent compared with a traditional rack-
mounted system,” says Jutasompakorn. “Our solution
includes HP Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO2) Advanced
management tools to reduce administrative demands
and HP Insight Control software for faster, smoother
provisioning and server management.”
HP helps boost Synnex sales by 25 percent
The HP solution provides the reliable, space-efficient and
easy-to-manage infrastructure that Synnex needed to
implement its new inventory management and VoIP
applications. Altogether 16 powerful blades run the
applications in 35 percent less space and with 60 percent
less cabling than traditional servers. And the HP
StorageWorks Storage Blade and HP EVA4000 SAN
easily manage the large amount of storage generated
by the inventory management system.
“Whenever needed, HP support has been prompt and
helpful,” says Jutasompakorn. “They have provided
excellent skills transfer and suggestions.”
Running on the new HP infrastructure, Synnex’s VoIP
phone system has cut the company’s telephone bill by
95 percent. In addition, the inventory management system
is able to automatically pick and pack 21 percent more
orders, supporting a record 25 percent jump in a recent
month’s sales.  With the increase in automation, employees
have gained two hours a day for more valuable tasks.
With HP’s Insight Control software Synnex was able to
provision its blade servers by pushing images of the
operating systems to the servers, cutting 50 percent of
the time it would have taken to provision them manually.
Managing from remote
And with iLO2 Advanced, Jutasompakorn can manage
the company’s server blades from home in one hour per
day, a job that used to take two employees two hours
each. The convenience of the remote management feature
increases the amount of flexibility that IT staff have in
performing their duties. Servers can be securely managed
from a single Web-based management console, from
wherever an authorized IT staff person happens to be.
Frequently they’re monitored and managed from Synnex
headquarters in Taiwan. As a result, Synnex can lock
down its server rack.
“The HP solution will pay for itself in one year,” says
Jutasompakorn. “We plan to upgrade our blades in the
near future to provide our 2,000 dealers with a Web
ordering mechanism. Our 20 other servers in the shop
will become HP blades, too.  It has become the architecture
of choice at Synnex.”
“We chose the HP BladeSystem because it enables
us to save space compared with a traditional rack-
mounted system.”

and the Logistics Center Department, Synnex Thailand
