This chapter introduces the main features and applications of the ZyXEL device.

The ZyXEL G-2000 Plus v2 is a wireless access point and a broadband router with a built-in 
switch rolled into one. As an Internet gateway, your ZyXEL device can share an Internet 
connection (through a cable or DSL modem) with multiple computers. The ZyXEL device 
offers highly secured wireless connectivity to your wired network with IEEE 802.1X, WEP 
data encryption, WPA(2) (Wi-Fi Protected Access) and MAC address filtering.

The ZyXEL device is easy to install and configure. The embedded web-based configurator and 
SNMP network management enables remote configuration and management of your ZyXEL 
device. 

The following sections describe the features of the ZyXEL device.

A combination of switch and router makes your ZyXEL device a cost-effective and viable 
network solution. You can connect up to four computers to the LAN ports on you ZyXEL 
device without the cost of a hub. 

This auto-negotiating feature allows the ZyXEL device to detect the speed of incoming 
transmissions and adjust appropriately without manual intervention. It allows data transfer of 
either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps in either half-duplex or full-duplex mode depending on your 
Ethernet network.
