You can set the appliance to automatically check for, download, and activate feature keys that are issued 
for this appliance. 

Select System Administration > Feature Key Settings. 

Click Edit Feature Key Settings. 

To see frequency of checks for new feature keys, click the (?) help button. 

Specify settings. 

Submit and commit your changes. 

If a feature key is expiring, the appliance sends out alerts 90 days, 60 days, 30 days, 15 days, 5 days, one 
day prior to the key expiration, and at the time of key expiration. To receive these alerts, make sure that 
you have subscribed to the System Alerts. For more information, see

If the feature key for the feature you are trying to access (using the web interface) has expired, please 
contact your Cisco representative or support organization.

You cannot open a Technical Support tunnel or run the System Setup Wizard before installing the virtual 
appliance license. 

After the virtual appliance license expires, the appliance will continue to deliver mail without security 
services for 180 days. Security service updates do not occur during this period.
