Installing the PDU
About the PDU
The Multimedia Tap system is designed to allow a two step upgrade process for
power passing capability. During the initial network construction, Multimedia Taps
are installed to provide CATV and other non-power passing subscriber services.

As hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) telephony is rolled out into the service area, the PDU is
installed to provide power passing capability for the Multimedia Tap system. The
PDU is located or “sandwiched” between the tap housing and the tap faceplate. The
same PDU is installed regardless of the tap faceplate attenuation characteristics.

Required tools
Make sure you have the following tools before proceeding.
#1 Phillips-head screwdriver
Socket wrench with 3/8-in. hex socket
9/64-in. Allen-head driver
Before you start
Before you start, inspect the label on the tap housing (see the following diagram) to
find the part number.
If the six-digit part number ends with “A,” proceed to “Installation procedure.”
If the part number ends with any other letter, use the procedure in the manual
and disregard the “Installation procedure.”
