Playback Features
High-Speed Search
During playback or still, press 5 for forward 
high-speed search, or 3 for reverse high-speed search.
● To resume normal playback, press 
4

NOTE:
For short searches, press and hold

seconds during playback or still picture. When released, normal 
playback resumes.
Still Picture/Frame-By-Frame 
Playback

Pause during playback.
Press 9.

Activate frame-by-frame playback.
Press 9 repeatedly to advance one frame at a time.
OR
Press 9 for over 2 seconds to start frame-by-frame 
playback.
● To resume normal playback, press 4.
Slow Motion
1
Pause during playback.
Press 9.

Activate slow motion playback.
Press and hold  e or w for over 2 seconds.
● The playback speed changes for each direction by pressing 
e
 
or 
w
 repeatedly.
● To resume normal playback, press 4.
Variable Speed Search
During playback, press e for forward variable-speed 
search, or w for reverse variable-speed search.
● The playback speed changes for each direction by pressing

 repeatedly. Refer to the illustration below.
● To resume normal playback, press 4.
ATTENTION
● Picture may not appear during high-speed search with an 
LP/EP-recorded tape.
● Noise may appear or the picture may appear distorted with 
an EP-recorded tape during still, slow motion, 
frame-by-frame playback or variable speed search.
● In the high-speed search, still, slow motion or 
frame-by-frame playback mode, the picture will be 
distorted, and there will be a loss of colour.
● When normal playback resumes from search, still, slow 
motion or frame-by-frame playback, the picture may jitter 
vertically momentarily depending on the type of TV being 
used.
Clean the video heads using a dry cleaning 
cassette — TCL-2UX — when:
● Rough, poor picture appears while a tape is played back.
● The picture is unclear or no picture appears.
● “USE CLEANING CASSETTE” appears on the screen (only 
with “O.S.D.” set to “ON” (
pg. 78)).
