IBM ISDN PC Card:User’s Guide

In this section we present a sample ISDN CAPI Port Device Driver configuration 
for the Internet provider UUNet (as of December 1999).

In "Multi-link PPP connections", both ISDN B channels are used to connect to the 
one call destination.  This doubles the available transmission capacity.

In order to use channel bundling in Windows 95, the Microsoft "ISDN Accelerator 
Pack 1.1" must be installed.  This feature is already included as a component of the 
Windows 98 operating system; no extra installation is necessary.

The "ISDN Accelerator Pack 1.1" can be downloaded from the Internet website: 
http://www.microsoft.com

Before establishing a multi-link PPP connection, please note the following:

•

Charges will be incurred for both ISDN B channels.

•

·The remote site, e.g. your Internet service provider (ISP), must support this 
operating mode.

•

·RAS connections (see "Remote Access Service") also are possible with multi-
link PPP.

After installing the "ISDN Accelerator Pack 1.1" (only necessary in Windows 95), 
proceed as follows to establish a multi-link PPP connection:

1. Create a new connection in Dial-Up Networking.

2. Click once on the connection with the right mouse button and select 

.

3. Click the Settings... button in the Additional Devices: field (Windows 98: 

select Multilink page). 

4. Activate the option Use additional devices.

5. Click the Add... button.

6. Under Name of Device, enter the  ISDN RAS (PPP over ISDN) modem.

7. Enter in the Number field the number of the main connection configured 

above.

8. Close the window by clicking OK.

Now the system automatically will attempt to connect to the destination ISDN 
number using both ISDN B channels whenever this dial-up connection is 
activated.
