use. These modems allow the ISDN-Controller in your computer to be used even
by programs that expect an analog modem.
Each of the virtual modems is available for a different application. For instance,
the ISDN FAX (G3) modem is configured for fax applications, while ISDN RAS
can be used for remote-access connections to remote computers.
The default configurations of the virtual modems allow them to be used
immediately in most conventional implementations without any further
configuration required. However, it is also possible to adapt the ISDN CAPI Port
Device Driver for special cases such as the configuration of the Internet
connection and RAS (see ” Modem Settings Using Registry Commands”).
Programs that use the CAPI interface directly can exploit the CAPI Port modem to
use the second B channel for their own use, parallel to an existing Dial-Up
Networking connection. This is possible because the B-channel assignments are
performed by CAPI automatically.
The fax functions of MS Exchange/Outlook and other Fax Group 3 applications
can be used through the virtual CAPI Port modem "ISDN FAX (G3)".
Installing and removing the ISDN CAPI Port device driver
Please note the following before starting the ISDN CAPI Port Device Driver
installation:
Note:
Only users with system access rights as an administrator can perform
installation.
During installation, up to eight virtual modems are installed, each of which is
designed to perform a different function.
The virtual modems ISDN FAX (G3) and ISDN Analog Modem (V.32bis) can
only be used with passive ISDN-Controllers if the ISDN-Controller's device
driver software supports these services. Contact the distributor or
manufacturer of your ISDN-Controller for more information.
The virtual modem ISDN Analog Modem (V.32bis) can only be used with
passive ISDN-Controllers. The analog/digital conversion is performed by the
computer's CPU. A Pentium computer with 133 MHz and at least 32 MB RAM
will provide optimal performance.
It might be necessary to assign COM ports to the virtual modems.  This is the
case when using Dial-Up Networking software which can access only COM
ports (such as older versions for Windows 3.x).  See the instructions in the
section ” Using Data Communications Software with an Emulated COM
Port”.  Before making any assignments, check which COM ports are already
in use by other hardware devices like serial interfaces.
Start installation
1. Insert the disk or CD with the ISDN CAPI Port Device Driver in the
appropriate drive.
