Dual-SRPU System Configuration

The S7900E Series Ethernet Switches are distributed devices supporting Intelligent Resilient
Framework (IRF). Two S7900E series can be connected together to form a distributed IRF device.
If an S7900E series is not in any IRF, it operates as a distributed device; if the S7900E series is in
an IRF, it operates as a distributed IRF device. For introduction of IRF, refer to IRF Configuration in
the System Volume.
The S7900E series Ethernet switches can operate in two modes: independent mode and IRF mode.
When the device works in the independent mode, you can use the features and functions in this
manual to restart the standby main board (SMB) to perform an active and standby switchover, thus
to implement redundant backup between the active main board (AMB) and the SMB; when the
device works in the IRF mode, you can only use the display switchover state command to view
the backup state of the main boards, and other functions and commands do not take effect.

Introduction to Dual-SRPU System
The S7900E series Ethernet switches are normally equipped with two main boards, with one being the
AMB that works under master mode and the other being the SMB that works under slave mode. With
the synchronization function SMB can work under the same system configuration.
If an AMB fails or is plugged out, the SMB will automatically switch over to function as an AMB (the
process is referred to as switchover hereafter), ensuring that the device works properly.
