Updates to the User Guide
The information presented in this section represents the most up-to-date information
for the BlueScale Encryption User Guide—information that will be added to the user
guide in the guide’s next revision.
Note:  To make sure that you have the latest version of these release
notes, check the electronic version on the Spectra Logic Web site
at
http://www.spectralogic.com/support/docs.cfm
.
These release notes include updates to the following information in Revision D of the
BlueScale Encryption User Guide:
• “Assigning a Key to a Partition” in all chapters on using BlueScale Standard and
Professional Editions, covered below
Assigning a Key to a Partition
The following information applies to “Assigning a Key to a Partition” in the chapters on
using the Standard and Professional Editions of BlueScale Encryption for the T50,
T120, and T950 libraries (Chapters 4, 5, 8, 9).
Before changing a partition’s encryption options, make sure all drives in the partition
are unloaded–that is, do not have tapes in them. The changes to the encryption options,
including adding encryption, do not take effect until after the tape drives are unloaded.
If a tape is loaded while encryption options are changed, the changes don’t take effect
until after the drive unloads the tape and loads a new one.
For example, if you replace the encryption key for a partition with a loaded tape, the
tape is still encrypted with the old key; the new key is used for encrypting data for the
next tape.
Chapter 11. Endura Decryption Utility
Preparing to Decrypt Data to Tape
When the M-of-N feature is used while exporting an encryption key, the key is split
into several portions that are saved in multiple files with the same file name. For
encrypted data that has an encryption key consisting of multiple key files, add an extra
step in the EDU decryption process: make sure that each key has a unique name prior
to running the EDU command.
