Chapter 11.  Loading and Unloading Media
111
Bulk Exports/Unloading a Partition
In a traditional automated library, when the backup software exports tapes, you have
to remove each tape from the EE port, then close the port while the library loads any
additional tapes into the port, which you must again remove tape by tape.
In the Spectra T950 library, exported tapes or RXT media packs are moved into the EE
pool. Instead of opening the EE port and pulling out individual tapes, use the LC to
unload multiple tapes at a time by using TeraPack containers. To the backup software,
this method of exporting media is the same as opening the EE port and removing tapes
or RXT media packs.
1. Export tapes or RXT media packs using the backup software. The library moves
all tapes (each in a TeraPack container with other tapes to be exported) or RXT
media packs from the partition’s storage pool into the partition’s EE pool.
2. After the software has exported the tapes, go to the library. From the LC’s
toolbar menu, select General > Import/Export. The Import/Export TeraPacks
screen appears (Figure 11-5).
Note: The Import/Export TeraPacks screen on your library may not
appear the same as the screen shown in Figure 11-5.
The action selections shown on this screen vary depending on the
current inventory in the partition; it only shows selections for
actions that can be performed. For example, if all chambers in this
partition are empty, the Export/Exchange option does not appear.
